Summer Craft Challenge 2025 : Week One

Blimey – that was a quick week. Week one if my Summer Craft Challenge 2025 is done!

I have to say I have been thrilled to be joined by so many other crafters so far this time – some are joining everyday, others just now and then. There is absolutely no pressure to post something everyday, but if you feel inspired to do something creative after reading this, please join in! Here’s a little look back at my creative week number 1!

Day 1 : Saturday 19th July

I started my Summer Craft Challenge off with a heart for the North West and North Wales Paediatric Transport Service yarny hearts appeal. It only seemed right – if this is the first you have heard about it, you can find all the details here.

Day 2 : Sunday 20th July

I had enough time today to actually make a full trio of matching hearts for the appeal – the staff on the ambulances need three matching hearts for each family, so this is my first full set done!

Day 3 : Monday 21st July

Now this was fun, a new make for a very special collaboration I am working on with Eleonora from Coastal Crochet. I won’t say any more for now, but I am very much looking forward to sharing it with you very soon…

Day 4 : Tuesday 22nd July

Super busy day for me both at work and at home in the evening meant there was very little time for crochet, but I did plan ahead and take my hook into work with me and managed a quick five minutes during my lunch break!

Day 5 : Wednesday 23rd July

Another frantically busy day meant not much time for fun things after work, cutting the lawn, food shopping, washing, ironing and packing to go on holiday, but it was all worth it because….

Day 6 : Thursday 24th July

….after a very long drive and ride on a ferry, we arrived at our home for the next week, in Scotland! Hurrah! Check that view out for a backdrop to my sock knitting!

Day 7 : Friday 25th July

I’ve been saving up this embroidery project to bring with me on holiday. I bought it a few months back from Hello Hooray Blog with the intention of bringing it away on holiday with me. It’s perfect, it’s small, portable and has everything I need inside and I LOVE the colours! I can’t put it down… just one more diamond….

Not only did I manage to do some embroidery on Friday, I also managed a bit of crochet on the side of the shinty pitch while my boys had a kick around!

Summer Craft Challenge 2022 : Weeks 5 & 6

It would appear that I have let things slide somewhat with this blogging lark! Here we are in October and I’ve just realised I never actually officially ended my Summer Craft Challenge 2022 – that will never do!

So here, an awful lot later than previously intended, is the final installment of my Summer Craft Challenge….

Day 30 : Saturday 20th August 2022

First half of my main summer project completed – the beginning of the Dragonfly River MAL by Keep Calm and Carry on Crocheting & The Yarn Whisperer. I found the slub yarn really quite tricky to get to grips with to start with, but once I got into a rhythm with it, it was fine. Although, that said I am really looking forward to the next section as it is all in the gorgeous aqua blues of the accent yarn used in the accents of this section I’ve just completed.

Day 31 : Sunday 21st August 2022

Sewing in ends is right up there in my least favourite jobs alongside ironing I’m afraid, but I embraced it and felt very virtuous once all the loose ends were tidied away today. This means I can now continue with the rest of my cowl without a guilty conscience. What’s more I even got so into it that I actually revisited an old project (my Crochet Sanctuary Christmas 2020 blanket CAL) and finished off all the loose ends on that too!

No crochet as such for me, just some tech editing for my Oakley and Agatha patterns I launched earlier this week.

Day 35 : Thursday 25th August 2022

It may have still been the summer holidays but some things continue – like music lessons. So while number 2 son made music, I sat in the car and made amigurumi!

Day 36 : Friday 26th August 2022

Sadly there was no craft today – I was too busy packing the two youngest of the family off on a trip and packing for myself and Eldest to go on holiday too….

Week 6

Day 37 : Saturday 27th August 2022

Three train journeys gave me loads of time to get hooking. Lots of progress was made on my Dragonfly River MAL en route between Manchester and……. Paris!!!!!!

Day 38 : Sunday 28th August 2022

Too much sightseeing for me today to manage any more than a quick row before collapsing into bed!

Day 39 : Monday 29th August 2022

My last evening crocheting dragonflies in Paris.

Day 40 : Tuesday 30th August 2022

Crochet, orangina & a Brie baguette on the EuroStar très French!

Four train journeys today… 1 Paris Metro, 1 Eurostar, 1 Intercity between London and Sheffield and finally 1 Trans-Pennine Express from Sheffield to Manchester and home = lots of hooky time.

Day 41 : Wednesday 31st August 2022

No exotic location for my crochet today, just back on my sofa at home!

Day 42 : Thursday 1st September 2022

Back to in-car crochet during music lessons again.

Day 43 : Friday 2nd September 2022

Whoops I may have accidentally started a new project….

Day 44 : Saturday 3rd September 2022

Day 45 : Sunday 4th September 2022

More pumpkin crochet for me – this time alfresco at a football match. It was a pre-season friendly which ‘we’ won 3-0!

And that brings my Summer Craft Challenge to an end for another year. Thank you for joining me on another yarny summer adventure. I may not have managed a 100% record for doing something crafty every day this time, but I gave it a decent try.

Catalan Bay


It was so hot in our apartment last Sunday, there was a heavy Levanter in town and strong winds there too but up in our corner of Gibraltar  it was still and hot and very humid. We escaped round to Catalan Bay in the afternoon for a short walk and most importantly for ice cream for the smaller folk. You wouldn’t believe the difference in tempterature on other side of the Rock. 

The beach was very quiet for a Sunday, but then perhaps people had been put off by the overcast weather. We enjoyed the cool anyway 🙂

Animal rescue


This little chap found himself trapped in our lounge on Monday, he must have flown in through the window. He got stuck between the two sashes as I tried to open them more to let him out. My little animal lover (Middle Postcard) stepped in to rescue him from between the two parts of window while I held them still. 

He flew out of the window and sat on the balcony to get his breath back for a few moments before flying off to find his Mum. My Dad tells me he’s probably a Great Tit chick. Whatever he is, he’s cute and was happy to be close to us after his rescue. I hope he found his Mum ok. 

Beach day


We had a lovely beach day on Wednesday. We’d arranged to meet a family there and ended up seeing another two families from school, so the Little Postcards had a fab time with their friends. All in all, our trip to Sandy Bay was a huge success.

All the fun of the fair


The fair’s in town at the moment. It can only mean one thing… The school summer holidays are coming to an end. We made our annual pilgrimage to look at the rides but not go on any and I am  amazed and pleased to say that we did partake of a couple of rides. 

We went in a group with friends and peer pressure may have had something to do with it. Nothing was too ‘wild’ but it’s progress on last year’s visit where the only thing we tried was the food!! 

An evening in Catalan Bay part 1


On Friday evening I went to Catalan Bay to meet a new friend (more on that shortly). When I arrived, it was a muggy overcast evening but the Bay looked as beautiful as ever. As the evening wore on and darkness fell the sky was lit by lightning and there were a couple of rumbles of thunder. 

When I got home and mentioned the storm out at sea, the Postcard family had been completely oblivious on this side of the Rock! 

An evening in Catalan Bay part 2 : Gin & Crochet


I went to Catalan Bay to meet up with the crochet guru Marisa also known as @mariwish on Instagram. We spent a lovely evening chatting, eating tapas, drinking gin and crocheting. Marisa teaches crochet in London but is visiting her native Gibraltar to see her family and decided to offer some crochet classes while she’s here on holiday too. 

I got tips and advice on making lacy shawls – not that I needed to start another project, but I’m well and truly hooked. It’s been great fun learning a new technique 🙂


Luscious lavender 


The lavender in Commonwealth Park is just lovely at the moment. I have walked through in the evening several times this week and the scent has been just lovely. It’s one of my favourite scents!
